Students for Environmental Concerns was created over 40 years ago to advocate and educate about environmental issues. We have a long history of successful campaigning on environmental issues. SECS as we like to call our group, is directly responsible for major environmental improvements on the University of Illinois in Champaign Urbana campus and surrounding community. Our members halted the construction of the Oakley Dam that would have flooded Allerton Park, demanded that the Abbott power plant be outfitted with clean "scrubber" technology, initiated recycling on campus, made the CU-MTD bus service part of the student fees, passed two sustainability fees to raise money for clean energy and carbon reduction, and pressed for multi-family recycling in the city of Champaign.
